LPAR (logical partition)

A logical partition (LPAR) lets one physical IBM Power server run as several independent servers. Its processors, memory and I/O devices are split into subsets, and each subset runs its own operating system and software. Supported operating systems are AIX, IBM i, Linux and the Virtual I/O Server, which provides virtual I/O to the other partitions.
