Glossary

VMware vSAN

vSAN is a software layer built into the ESXi hypervisor. It pools the local or directly attached storage devices of the hosts in a cluster into one shared pool, so that high availability, vMotion and DRS work without an external shared storage array. It also simplifies storage configuration and the provisioning of virtual machines.

XorMon

How XorMon monitors it

✓For vSAN based datastores, XorMon graphs MD and SSD capacity in TiB and in %, and the configuration and outstanding IO at the vCenter level.
✓Per cluster, XorMon graphs IOPS, data in MB/sec, latency in ms and congestion.
✓vSAN metrics sit next to the other VMware graphs, and datastores appear in the topology map that links VMs, datastores and storage volumes.
✓VMware vSAN is not Cisco VSAN: XorMon also supports Cisco VSANs, in its SAN monitoring.
